Scope & Sequence Introduction to Network Systems
Get to know the fundamental technology and concepts that make networking systems possible, including the software and hardware supporting LANs, WANs, and Wi-Fi networks with SOS Introduction to Network Systems. This CTE elective for students in grades 9-12 uses vivid graphics, videos clips, audio files, animation, and learning games to liven up lessons and clarify concepts.
Introduce students to key network systems concepts, including the OSI reference model and its bottom four layers, each of which is explored in a three-lesson chapter. This six-unit CTE course for grades 9-12 teaches students to state the purpose of a computer network and explain the role of network hardware in achieving that purpose, list at least four protocols from the TCP/IP stack and explain how each contributes to data transmission.
In addition, this elective explains the technical differences between a LAN and a WAN, describes the importance of technical standards in networks, lists all seven layers of the OSI reference model, explains what each of the bottom four layers contributes to a network, and compares and contrasts the Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
