Is there an Earth science course?

Elementary Homeschool Curriculum
Apologia offers 5 courses for grades K-6:

  • Astronomy, Young Explorer Series
  • Botany, Young Explorer Series

How do you choose which course to start with?
You can choose the a topic of interest from Astronomy, Zoology, or Botany and teach the courses in whatever order you see fit.  If you choose Zoology, it is usually best to start with Zoology I, as Zoology 2 and 3 use terms from Zoology 1.

Apologia FAQS

Why Choose Apologia?
Apologia provides fun and challenging K-12 creation-based science curriculum specifically designed for the homeschool. Written by a former university professor and homeschool parent, courses provide college-preparatory science in a way that is both clear and challenging. Apologia texts are readable, easy to understand, and full of engaging experiments that can be performed at home. Apologia provides a FREE help line to answer any questions or problems you may encounter.

I don't know anything about chemistry (or physics or biology). How can I possibly do high school science at home with my student?
Apologia wrote this curriculum just for you and your student. It is designed with the idea that the student is on his or her own with the course. This means that all of the explanation that a teacher would normally give orally in class has to be included in the book, step by step. This is also why the course is written conversationally, to make the student feel like someone is speaking directly to him or her. If you want to work with the student and work through the course too, that's great. If questions come up that you can't answer, we provide a free question and answer service. There's information in the front of the student textbook telling you how to reach Apologia.

Differences Between the Editions

  • Dr. Wile has been answering student questions on each of these courses for seven years or more. Those questions have allowed him to realize what sections of the books could be written more clearly. Thus, these editions of our courses are even more understandable than the first editions!
  • The student text has graphic icons that tell the student when there is a related multimedia presentation on the optional companion CD.
  • There are course websites that have links to materials which provide extra help as well as interesting news related to each field.
  • There are cumulative tests in the solutions and tests manual if the parent/teacher wants to give the student quarterly, semester, or final exams.
  • The tests in the solutions and tests manual contain a point system that aids the parent/teacher in grading the tests.
  • Finally, even though the module tests are found in the solutions and tests manual (so that the parent/teacher always has a copy of them), a second set of tests is also provided in a perforated booklet. This will allow the student to be given the tests without referring to the solutions and tests manual.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of the differences between the first and second editions, students in a group setting cannot use both. They must all have the same edition. Because of this, the first edition of the course will still be available for those in schools or support groups that use the first edition.
